THE ICE QUEEN HAS ARRIVED

Published August 2020 - East Coast Current Magazine

Isn’t it incredible how a simple sound can hold so many memories. Now, with that in mind, think about a song, that no matter where you are or when you hear it, it makes you smile. For me, it’s hands down, the ice cream truck! There is something so nostalgic about hearing that distinct song, that even to this day it triggers an immediate reaction to find my wallet, run towards it and scream, “The ice cream truck!”

New Smyrna Beach is known for their quirky beach town vibe, so it's only appropriate they have their very own “Ice Queen” who has been slinging delicious frozen treats along the shoreline for over 2 years now.

The Queen herself, Tina Sabella, came to New Smyrna Beach and found the perfect opportunity to spend her days doing exactly what she loved. Not only does she get to enjoy the most beautiful beach scenery every day, she has children and adults alike, literally running at her in pure excitement, just because she has arrived. Talk about an entrance!

The Ice Queen Truck quickly became a local favorite, and is providing a whole lot of tasty goodness up and down the beach between 27th Avenue and the jetty, every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m, weather permitting. She is serving up multiple flavors of delicious ice cream, frozen chocolate covered bananas and a variety of ice cream floats.

The Queen also offers POPFUSIONS, which are all-natural fruit pops made right here in Florida.  If you’re looking for the classics from the ice cream truck of your youth, she has those, too, including Bomb Pops, SpongeBob, Creamsicles, Ice Cream Sandwiches and Cones. It’s no wonder they placed 4th in the Top 5 best places for Frozen Treats in Volusia County.

"The Ice Queen Truck is growing her fleet and recently added two new ice cream trucks to her arsenal of vehicles as well as a golf cart and a vintage push cart, equipped with an over-sized beach umbrella and all."

She is heading to the streets and can already be seen popping up at local farmer’s markets, like the one hosted at Tomazin Farms (3779 Honeydew Ln, NSB) every Saturday morning from 7 to 11 a.m., featuring vendors, fresh produce, yoga and live music.

But that’s not all - if you can’t make it to the beach or one of the events, have the Ice Queen Truck come to you! In an effort to share happiness in such stressful times, The Ice Queen Truck is now offering neighborhood delivery service. Place your order online or email Tina to have the truck visit your neighborhood. You could even have them treat your next gathering or arrange for a visit to your business, bringing a special afternoon pick-me-up, the whole office can enjoy.

Giving back to the community comes naturally to Tina and her crew, so during sea turtle season (May 1 - October 31) frozen treats are featured and $1 from each purchase is donated to the Friends of Marine Science Center and the Marine Discovery Center. She even has turtle-safe infrared flashlights for sale if you need them.

Tina hopes to bring awareness to the crucial preservation of wildlife and natural resources in our area, including our beaches, stating, “The ocean is the lifeline to our existence. We must try harder to keep it safe and clean for the delicate ecosystem to survive.” She even educates visitors to the truck on the importance of respecting our sea turtle population during nesting season and is also a proud local sponsor of Oceans of Hope.

All Ice Queen Trucks use compostable recycled material cups and enviro straws and they even go as far as to take the wrappers from all products sold, so you don’t have to worry about it later. Customers are encouraged to be more vigilant about taking their trash from the beach, and if you can’t get to a proper receptacle, anyone is welcome to bring trash to any of the Volusia County Beach Rentals & Refreshments beach vendors so they can take care of it properly.

A strong community that supports each other is one that thrives. When you utilize local small businesses, you can rest assured you have invested back into your own town. If you are interested in learning more about how The Ice Queen Truck can sweeten up your life, you can contact her directly.
